Nantes carrots have rounded tips and are sweeter and more tender than traditional carrots.
How to pick
Both orange and coloured Nantes carrots are only available during harvest season between July and November. Don’t be put off by their small size—that’s what gives them their refined and sweet flavour!
How to store
Nantes carrots have a shorter shelf life than traditional carrots and keep only two to three weeks. Store them in a paper or perforated plastic bag in the fridge’s crisper drawer.
Avoid storing them with apples, pears, and potatoes.
How to prepare
Since their skins are very thin and tasteless, there’s no need to peel them. Brushing them under running water is plenty.
They’re delicious raw, but are also great glazed and enjoyed as a side dish. To glaze, blanch whole for two minutes in boiling water and then sauté in a large skillet with some butter and brown sugar. Simply scrumptious!
