- Boston lettuce leaves

- ripe avocado, sliced

- store-bought pesto

Directions

- Patties
Preheat the grill, setting the burners to high. Oil the grate.
- Step 2
- In a bowl, combine the meat, salt and pepper. With your hands, shape the mixture into 4 patties. Place on a plate. Lightly oil the patties. Set aside.

- Burgers
Place the onion and tomato slices on a large plate. Drizzle with the oil. Season with salt and pepper.

- Grill the patties and onion slices for 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until the meat is cooked through and the onion is tender. Keep warm. Separate the onion slices into rings. Grill the hamburger buns.
- Step 5
- Cover the insides of the buns with the mayonnaise. Top the bottom buns with the lettuce leaves, patties, grilled onion, tomato slices, avocado and pesto. Close with the bun tops. Serve with fries, if desired.
Tips
For a meat-free version, use store-bought vegetarian patties.
